Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the accusations made by All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly members from the state, labeling their actions as “contemptible cowardice.” The members accused the governor of being “dictatorial” and undermining their representation in the state.
In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, on Friday, Governor Alia expressed his disapproval of the “blatant and unwarranted assault” on him. He accused the federal lawmakers of compromising their integrity to orchestrate a damaging narrative against him, emphasizing his commitment to the APC and its electoral successes in the state.
The Benue State APC Caucus at the National Assembly, led by Titus Zam, accused Governor Alia of running the state in a dictatorial manner, undermining their role, and engaging in nepotism. The caucus members, loyal to former governor George Akume, called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene.
In response, Tersoo Kula criticized the caucus for disparaging the governor instead of engaging in discussions beneficial to the state’s development. He questioned the legitimacy of Titus Zam’s leadership, highlighting electoral setbacks in Zam’s ward and local government.
The statement refuted allegations of non-performance against Governor Alia, citing the absence of concrete contributions by the National Assembly members, including the lack of constituency offices and failure to sponsor any bills. Kula challenged the caucus to stand by their statements in Benue and face the public with their allegations.
Despite the accusations and political tensions, the statement affirmed the unwavering support of the people for Governor Alia, emphasizing his commitment to fulfilling promises made to the electorate. The Benue State Government remains resolute in defending the integrity of Governor Alia amid the attacks, as stated in the press release.
