Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has denied plotting to succeed Senator Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the party.
It was reported that George, a former Military chief, has been one of the vocal voices calling for Ayu’s resignation to give a southerner the chance to lead the party into the 2023 general elections.
It was alleged that George had been penciled down by the camp of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State “to replace the national chairman of the party provided they succeed in forcing Ayu to resign from the office.”
But speaking in an interview with This Day, the PDP chieftain maintained that his plan to leave partisan politics by May 2023 is still very much in play.
George stated that he is no longer enticed by the national chairmanship position, stressing that he has given 50 years of his life to public service.
