In a tragic incident, suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) in Kwari, Geidam local government area (LGA) of Yobe state, resulting in the death of Pastor Luka Levong and five others. The attackers reportedly invaded the community around 2:00 am on Friday, January 5.
Among the victims, Pastor Luka Levong and his church treasurer Maina Abdullahi were shot, while the other victims were killed in their separate houses before the arrival of security forces. The attackers also set ablaze several houses, including a church and vehicles. Geidam is located 177 kilometers away from Damaturu, the state capital, and is approximately 40 kilometers from the Nigeria/Niger Republic border.
This tragic incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region and the impact of terrorist activities on local communities. The Nigerian security forces are expected to investigate the attack and take measures to address the security concerns in the affected area.
