Boko Haram, the notorious insurgent group, has issued a chilling threat to recapture territories that have been recovered by Nigerian troops. Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert focusing on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this alarming development in a video shared on social media.
The militants also directed their threat towards the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), colloquially referred to as “Yan Red Cross,” accusing them of collaborating with the military to target Boko Haram in their strongholds.
In a statement delivered in the Hausa language, one of the armed terrorists declared, “We unequivocally announce our return to reclaim all the territories that we lost to the infidels. To the Red Cross, you may be celebrating now because you have been armed, but remember that you cannot prevail against Islam. We place our trust in the power of Allah, and with His might, we will emerge victorious.”
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has strongly condemned the recent deadly attack by bandits in the Kofar Gayan area of Zaria, Kaduna State. The bandits, in a brazen act of violence, claimed the lives of two individuals and attempted to abduct others.
In his official statement, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen emphasized the paramount importance of safeguarding the lives of all Nigerians, regardless of their location. He called for enhanced efforts by security forces to protect citizens and their property. The Speaker also expressed deep sorrow over the recent tragic events, which occurred shortly after the Zaria Central Mosque collapse that claimed several lives.
In response to the escalating security crisis in Zamfara State, Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI), a coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), has urgently called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the state. The coalition expressed grave concern over the deteriorating security situation, particularly over the past two months.
Muhammad Sanusi, the Coordinator of DWI, lamented the increasing frequency of violent incidents orchestrated by bandits, leading to unspeakable acts of horror including rape, displacement of communities, kidnappings for ransom, and loss of innocent lives. The coalition emphasized the urgent need for robust intervention to quell the rising tide of insecurity in Zamfara, with the state capital Gusau teetering on the brink of complete bandit takeover.
