A somber atmosphere descended upon Borno State as the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (RRR), Ibrahim Garba, was discovered lifeless in his guest house at the 777 housing estate in Maiduguri. This tragic incident occurred on a fateful Saturday and has prompted an ongoing investigation to ascertain the cause of his death.
Disturbingly, Mr. Garba’s lifeless body was found alongside that of an as-yet-unidentified woman who was initially discovered unconscious. Despite efforts to provide her with medical attention, the woman tragically succumbed to her condition at the hospital.
Currently, the remains of both Mr. Garba and the woman have been transported to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where a comprehensive autopsy is being conducted to shed light on the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The Borno State Government has officially confirmed the untimely demise of Commissioner Garba, and the Governor’s spokesman, Isa Gusau, expressed deep sorrow and shock on behalf of the state. Mr. Gusau relayed Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s profound grief and condolences to the late commissioner’s family, friends, associates, and members of the state executive council.
In response to this shocking development, the Borno State police command has initiated an immediate investigation into Mr. Garba’s death. The State Police Commissioner personally visited the house in Maiduguri where the commissioner was found.
While the government’s statement is reticent about the details of the incident and the identity of the woman, it conveys prayers for Commissioner Garba’s forgiveness and a peaceful afterlife.
Additional insights into the incident were provided by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Command, Kaminu Shatambaya. However, Mr. Shatambaya refrained from sharing specific details about the incident or disclosing the woman’s identity. He stated, “It was a tragic loss but for now, we are all at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital waiting for the autopsy result before any official statement from the police can be issued.”
Ibrahim Garba was a prominent figure in Governor Zulum’s administration, previously serving as the Special Adviser on Special Projects before his appointment as the Commissioner of RRR at the outset of Governor Zulum’s second term in office. The investigation into his sudden demise continues, casting a pall over the state and its leadership.
