BREAKING: Court Nullifies Election of Ebonyi Council Chairmen, Councillors

The Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has nullified the 2024 local government elections that produced the state’s 13 council chairmen and their councillors, describing the process as unconstitutional.

The court ruled that the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) failed to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act, rendering the election invalid.

According to information obtained by Daily Post, the judgment held that EBSIEC’s conduct of the 2024 polls violated due process, making the elections and all outcomes illegal and of no effect.

It would be recalled that the same court had earlier nullified the August 2022 local government elections in Ebonyi State for similar violations of electoral procedures.

With this latest judgment, the tenure of all serving local government chairmen and councillors in the state stands effectively terminated, pending further legal or administrative actions by the state government.

Further details are expected soon.
