Former President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina for what he described as a historic and outstanding performance during his two-term tenure as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
In a statement released on Friday, Mr. Buhari expressed pride in Dr. Adesina’s achievements and his own role in supporting the former Nigerian minister’s emergence as the bank’s president.
“I am happy with the enormous success Adesina has achieved at the end of his tenure, and I am glad to have supported his emergence as the helmsman of the bank in the first and second instances,” Buhari said.
He praised Adesina for delivering a “spectacular performance” that has left AfDB shareholders more satisfied than ever before, noting that his legacy sets a new benchmark for leadership at the institution.
“Records show that he has set such a great, unmatched record of excellence,” he added. “I am happy with the role I played in bringing his talent forward.”
Buhari attributed Adesina’s success to a combination of discipline, hard work, and strong values, describing him as “a son of Nigeria” who has become a symbol of hope and inspiration on the continent.
He concluded by wishing Adesina continued strength and success in his future endeavours.
