Grammy-winning Nigerian musician Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has revealed that he recently declined a $5 million offer to perform in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Burna Boy cited his refusal as stemming from the fact that he wouldn’t be allowed to smoke weed while in Dubai. Emirati law prohibits smoking in parks, beaches, and all public recreational areas in Dubai.
In a video circulating on social media, Burna Boy can be seen rehearsing with his band, Outsiders, and freestyling, saying, “Just now I turned down Dubai money, 5 million dollars is nothing because I don’t like going where they won’t allow me to smoke weed (igbo).”
The artist’s candid revelation highlights his commitment to his personal preferences and values, even when facing substantial financial incentives.
