The Chief Coroner of Lagos State, Hon. Justice M.A Dada, has directed an inquest into the death of Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. The decision follows a letter addressed to the Lagos-based legal firm, Festus Ogun Legal, confirming the commencement of preliminary enquiries into Mohbad’s death on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Magistrate Court 3, Candide-Johnson Courthouse, Ita-Elewa, Ikorodu, Lagos.
The letter, obtained by SaharaReporters, cites the legal firm’s earlier requests and emphasizes the need for an inquest due to the alleged strange and suspicious circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise. The inquest is in accordance with the provisions of Sections 14 and 15 of the CORONER’S SYSTEM LAW of Lagos State, Cap C15, Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The Chief Coroner’s notification states, “Your office is HEREBY NOTIFIED that preliminary enquiries into the death of LATE ILERIOLUWA OLADIMEJI ALOBA AKA ‘MOHBAD’ by the undersigned coroner will commence on Friday the 29th September, 2023, at Magistrate Court 3, Candide-Johnson Courthouse, Ita-Elewa, Ikorodu, Lagos, at 12:00 noon.”
Mohbad passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, and in the aftermath of his death, there have been allegations of assault by Naira Marley and his crew. A viral video features Mohbad’s mother asserting that her son found no peace since his association with Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, the owner of Marlian Music—the record label that had previously signed the late Mohbad.
