In a crucial announcement on Tuesday, November 21, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, expressed deep concern over the activities of Simon Ekpa, a prominent leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) currently believed to be in hiding in Finland. Gen. Musa asserted that Ekpa’s actions were causing substantial harm to the southeast region of Nigeria.
Accusing Finland of providing protection to Ekpa, the Defence Chief emphasized the urgent need for the Nigerian government to engage with Finland and potentially invite its ambassador to address the matter.
Gen. Musa, alongside other Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, made these remarks during their appearance before the House of Representatives at the commencement of its sectoral debate. He highlighted the strenuous efforts of the military and security agencies to maintain peace in the southeast but lamented that Ekpa’s comments and activities were undermining these endeavors.
In a related update, Gen. Musa disclosed that approximately 140,000 terrorists had surrendered and were awaiting disarmament. Additionally, he asserted that there was currently no territory under the occupation of Boko Haram insurgents, signaling a positive development in the ongoing efforts to counter terrorism in the country.
