The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has refuted claims that the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, ignored its invitation, clarifying that the minister requested to reschedule his interrogation. The CCB had summoned the embattled minister to address concerns regarding his company’s involvement in a ₦438 million contract with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The scheduled meeting, intended to take place on Monday, was postponed as the Minister did not attend but sent a memo to the CCB, citing national assignment as the reason for his absence.
Veronica Kato, the spokesperson for the CCB, addressed the situation in a telephone interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday. She stated that the minister’s interrogation would be rescheduled for a later date based on his written request to the bureau, explaining, “Yes, the minister’s interrogation has been rescheduled. He wrote, asking that it be rescheduled because he has a national assignment, so it has been rescheduled for a later date.”
Kato emphasized that there was no case of the minister deliberately avoiding the invitation, stating, “There was no case of shunning invitation.” However, when asked about the specific rescheduled date, she mentioned that there was no precise date determined yet. “We don’t have a precise date now, but it has been rescheduled to another day,” she added.
