In a tragic incident, the Commander of the Benue State Livestock Guards, Jarule Likita, along with three of his colleagues, were killed by unknown armed gunmen in separate attacks that occurred in the Ukum Local Government Area of the state.
The Commander, Jarule Likita, met a fatal end as he was shot multiple times in the chest at the Tine-Nune settlement around 8pm on August 21. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants followed Likita and opened fire on him, causing panic in the area and prompting others to flee for safety.
The unfortunate incident is not isolated, as it follows the killing of three other members of the Livestock Guards by armed men just a few weeks prior. The repeated attacks have raised serious security concerns in the region.
Mr. Linus Zaki, the State Commander of the Livestock Guards, expressed his deep concern over the ongoing attacks and the challenges posed by these unidentified gunmen. The situation has placed a heavy burden on the security forces tasked with maintaining peace and order in the state.
Benue State police spokesperson, Superintendent Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, although official reports were yet to be received at the time of her statement. The continuous violence underscores the need for a swift and comprehensive response to address the security threats and ensure the safety of residents in the area.
