In a significant development, the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism in Benue State, Hon. Matthew Abo, has been successfully released from captivity, as reported on Thursday, October 5th, 2023.
Mr. Abo, who was abducted in Sankera, Ukum Local Government, has now reunited with his family following a release that involved no ransom or monetary exchanges. The Commissioner’s freedom was attributed to the relentless efforts of security operatives acting on the directives of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The Governor, having given marching orders to the security forces to ensure the safe release of Mr. Abo, commended their dedication and effectiveness. It was emphasized that the successful operation was achieved without any financial transaction. However, it was noted that the criminals responsible for the abduction are still in custody of Mr. Washima Erukaa, the former Chairman of Ukum LGA, and his cousin, who was discreetly negotiating with the kidnappers and also became a victim.
Upon the Commissioner’s safe return, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia issued a stern warning to criminals operating within the state, stating unequivocally that their activities will not be tolerated. Governor Alia urged security operatives to remain vigilant and resolute in their actions to secure the release of the remaining captives.
Sir Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, conveyed the Governor’s appreciation to the security operatives for their commendable feat and emphasized the need for continued robust actions against criminals to ensure the safety and security of the state. The Governor urged security forces to be resolute and ruthless in dealing with criminals, leaving them no room to operate within Benue State.
