A controversy has arisen following allegations that Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, funded the funeral of the late father of Arise TV journalist, Mr. Rufai Oseni. The claims have led to a heated exchange involving former presidential aide, Pastor Reno Omokri, and Peter Obi.
The controversy centers around allegations that Peter Obi financially supported the funeral of Mr. Rufai Oseni’s father, a move that some claim influenced Oseni’s political comments and analyses in favor of Obi. Reno Omokri, in a series of tweets, called on Peter Obi to publicly clarify whether he provided financial assistance to Oseni and if it had influenced Oseni’s political stance.
In response to these allegations, Peter Obi denied the claims, stating that he neither financially induced journalists nor used monetary means to influence political commentaries. He explained that attending events like funerals and birthdays is a regular practice for him and that he does not know the details of Oseni’s background.
Reno Omokri continued to challenge Peter Obi’s response, accusing him of using sophistry to avoid directly answering the question. He reasserted his query, asking whether Peter Obi gave money directly or indirectly to Oseni, and if it had influenced Oseni’s open bias in favor of Obi.
Omokri also accused Arise TV’s Rufai Oseni of threatening to kill him in a recorded audio and spreading false information about a subpoena from Chicago State University (CSU) regarding Bola Tinubu’s academic credentials. He launched a social media challenge called #PublishTheSubpoena, urging Oseni to publish the alleged subpoena that claimed Tinubu’s academic credentials were denied by CSU.
In response to these challenges, Oseni has not yet provided the alleged subpoena. Omokri continued to assert that he had published documents from Chicago State University confirming Tinubu’s graduation from the institution.
The controversy continues to unfold as the involved parties exchange claims and counterclaims regarding the alleged funding of the funeral and the authenticity of the documents related to Bola Tinubu’s academic credentials.
