The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a husband and wife duo on charges of kidnapping their neighbor’s two-year-old son. According to DSP Ramhan Nansel, the spokesperson for the command, the incident came to light during a press briefing held on Thursday in Lafia.
The complainant, Adamu Abdullahi, residing in Orange Market, Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area, had reported the disappearance of his toddler on August 13 at approximately 3:30 pm. Disturbingly, he received a ransom call from an unknown individual demanding a staggering N2 million for the safe return of his child.
In response to the distressing situation, the police swung into action immediately, deploying detectives to search for the missing child. Their relentless efforts paid off when they managed to track down the main suspect along with three accomplices. The primary suspect, who happened to be a neighbor of the victim’s father, admitted to conspiring with the other suspects in orchestrating the abduction.
During the course of interrogation, the prime suspect revealed that he had handed over the child to his wife, who then transported the toddler to Katsina State. Displaying commendable determination, the police successfully traced and apprehended the suspect’s wife in Katsina State. Thanks to their timely intervention, the child was rescued and reunited with his relieved parents.
In a series of commendable actions, the Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a total of 14 suspects during the months of July and August, all implicated in various criminal activities including kidnapping, armed robbery, and involvement in cult groups. The law enforcement officers also managed to seize three firearms and confiscate 11 rounds of live ammunition from some of the apprehended suspects.
As the investigations continue, Nansel urged the residents of the state to remain vigilant and prioritize their personal security. The spokesperson also made it clear that once the investigations are concluded, all the suspects will be brought before the court to face the charges leveled against them. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and law enforcement efforts in maintaining safety and security within the region.
