In a decisive verdict, the Court of Appeal in Lagos State has rejected the appeals filed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) challenging the election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The three-member panel, led by Yargata Nimpar, delivered a unanimous decision on Wednesday, dismissing the grounds of appeal by the LP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The panel affirmed the judgment of the tribunal that upheld the victory of Sanwo-Olu as the elected governor of Lagos in the March 11 election. Sanwo-Olu secured 762,134 votes, defeating Rhodes-Vivour, who scored 312,329 votes. The third candidate, Jandor, received 62,449 votes.
Dissatisfied with the results, the LP and PDP candidates had approached the Lagos State Election Petitions Tribunal to challenge Sanwo-Olu’s victory. However, the tribunal, in its ruling on September 25, dismissed their suit seeking to nullify the election outcome.
Undeterred, Rhodes-Vivour and Adediran appealed the tribunal’s judgment, leading to the recent decision by the Court of Appeal to uphold Sanwo-Olu’s victory.
