In a recent ruling, the Court of Appeal affirmed the election of Jibrin Isah, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the senator representing Kogi East. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had previously declared Isah as the winner of the Kogi East Senatorial District election. However, the runner-up in the election, Victor Adoji from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contested Isah’s victory at the tribunal, arguing that certain polling units had experienced election cancellations.
Adoji urged the tribunal to invalidate Isah’s win and order a supplementary election in the 94 affected polling units within the senatorial district. In response, the tribunal, led by Justice K.A. Orjiako, issued a unanimous decision to conduct a rerun in the 94 polling units due to irregularities in the previous general election.
Isah, displeased with the tribunal’s decision, lodged an appeal against the ruling. In the most recent development, the Court of Appeal set aside the tribunal’s decision, thereby affirming Isah’s victory in the Kogi East Senatorial election.
