Dangote Oil Refining Company has received its maiden one million barrels of crude oil, marking a significant step towards the commencement of fuel production at the $19 billion refinery. The company is anticipating the arrival of its second shipment within three weeks.
The STASCO vessel delivered the first million barrels, sourced from the Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited, to the refinery’s single-point mooring. This marks the initiation of the refinery’s operations, and the crude oil will sustain the initial processing of 350,000 barrels per day (bpd) by the facility.
Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, had earlier stated that the refinery would start production with 350,000 bpd of crude oil. The company is expected to receive the next four cargoes, supplied by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), within the next two to three weeks. The final of the six cargoes will be provided by ExxonMobil.
The refinery’s statement highlighted that this development will address fuel supply challenges faced by Nigeria and other West African countries. It is expected to play a crucial role in alleviating the demand for diesel, aviation fuel, LPG, and Premium Motor Spirit in the region.
