In a decisive legal victory, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State emerged triumphant as the Supreme Court upheld his election, dismissing the appeal filed by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu. The apex court, led by the honorable Justice Okoro, asserted that Adebutu and his party failed to substantiate their case.
Addressing journalists at the Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport in Iperu on Friday, Governor Abiodun characterized the legal battle as an “emotional seesaw, psychological seesaw, and emotional distraction.” He expressed gratitude to the judiciary, acknowledging the Tribunal’s foundational ruling and the subsequent affirmations by the Appeal court and the Supreme Court.
The Governor thanked the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his unwavering support throughout his political journey. Abiodun remarked that the victory marked the conclusion of “court shopping” by his adversaries, emphasizing the resilience of the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.
Despite the challenges faced during the legal proceedings, Governor Abiodun remained resolute, stating, “All attempts to distract us have failed.” He extended a challenge to his opponent, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, suggesting that if he harbored aspirations for a rerun, he should prepare for it in 2027.
Looking ahead, Governor Abiodun pledged to focus on sustaining the legacies laid since assuming office in 2019. He teased upcoming initiatives for the people of Ogun State in the coming weeks, emphasizing the state’s status as the fastest-growing and most improved economy in Nigeria. The Governor affirmed his commitment to building on these achievements, signifying a renewed dedication to the progress and development of Ogun State.
