In a recent development, Dele Momodu, a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called upon the party’s leadership to take decisive action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Momodu expressed his frustration, stating that if given the authority, he would have sanctioned Wike much earlier for allegedly working against the interests of the party.
This call for action follows the PDP’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, who had previously pledged to sanction Wike at the appropriate time due to his perceived activities against the party’s objectives.
Wike’s rift with the PDP intensified when he openly supported President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the February 25 election. The fallout has since led to a clash between Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, particularly concerning control over the state’s resources.
The tensions reached a boiling point as 25 members of the state House of Assembly aligned with Wike defected to the APC, and some commissioners resigned from the state executive council in solidarity with the minister.
Speaking on Arise Television, Dele Momodu emphasized that the PDP leadership cannot afford to tolerate Wike’s alleged disruptive actions any longer and must put an end to his perceived political maneuvers. Momodu expressed his belief that Wike is attempting to have it both ways, stating, “He wants to eat his cake and have it.”
As the party grapples with internal strife, the spotlight remains on whether the PDP leadership will heed Momodu’s call for swift action against Minister Nyesom Wike.
