President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of Ambassador Desmond Akawor as a Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). The appointment is pending confirmation by the Nigerian Senate. Akawor is set to represent Rivers State in this capacity, succeeding the late Hon. Asondu Wenah Temple.
Ambassador Desmond Akawor, a decorated public servant, has an extensive record of service to the nation. His previous roles include serving as Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority, CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, and Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (Engineering & Technical Services).
The appointment comes following the unfortunate passing of Hon. Asondu Wenah Temple earlier this month. The nomination of Ambassador Desmond Akawor reflects the President’s commitment to filling key positions with experienced and dedicated individuals. The formal confirmation process will be undertaken by the Nigerian Senate.
