Tensions have risen at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) as some directors engage in a public dispute with the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein. The directors accuse her of age falsification, bribery, and alleged irregularities in her appointment to the esteemed position.
Through their legal advisor, the aggrieved directors have submitted a formal complaint to the presidency and the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Mr. Wale Edun, urging immediate intervention in the matter.
The directors claim that Mrs. Madein falsified her age prior to her appointment and allegedly used bribery to secure the prestigious position, bypassing the required examinations for the role. They specifically argue that she ranked second in the selection process, with Mr. Olakunle Oladipupo purportedly emerging as the top candidate and now serving as Director of Finance in the Ministry of Works.
In response, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein has vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as baseless and an attempt to divert her focus from fulfilling her duties. Her Director of Press, Mr. Bawa Mokwa, emphasized that her records, submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), can verify her credentials.
The competitive nature of the position, according to the AGF, often makes it susceptible to unwarranted attacks. She urged a fair examination of the facts to dispel any doubts surrounding her appointment.
The petitioners also accused Mrs. Madein of manipulating her date of birth to extend her service years. They called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the arrest, investigation, and potential prosecution of the AGF for the alleged offenses.
Apart from age-related accusations, the directors also claimed that Mrs. Madein received cash bribes, particularly in the posting of accountants to desirable ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
The petition has been forwarded to key government officials, including the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and the National Security Adviser. The outcome of this dispute could significantly impact the leadership and integrity of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
