Noah Kekere, the doctor accused of allegedly removing a woman’s kidney in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, exhibited signs of mental disorder while in police custody on Saturday evening.
Kekere had been arrested on Wednesday following a report lodged at the Nasarawa Gown police division concerning the alleged removal of Mrs. Kehinde Kamal’s right kidney during an operation in 2018.
After displaying symptoms of madness in the police cell, Kekere was rushed to the Psychiatric unit of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
A police source confirmed that Kekere had started tearing his clothes in the cell and behaving erratically, prompting the police to take him to JUTH in handcuffs.
At the hospital, Kekere reportedly exhibited signs of mental instability, shouting and yelling phrases like “they want to silence my daughter.”
As of now, there is a strong police presence around the Psychiatric unit of the hospital.
The spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, did not respond to inquiries.
Kekere had been providing medical treatment, including surgery, for over two decades at his Murna Clinic and Maternity in the Yanshanu Community of Jos North Local Government Area before his arrest.
