The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly expanded its secret raid to include the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), allegedly carting away files that implicate President Bola Tinubu and some of his close aides. According to a security source, the DSS closure of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos office, which occurred previously, was instigated by Tinubu.
During the raid on the EFCC office, it is believed that the DSS confiscated files and flash drives containing sensitive information about former governors, ministers, and senators who were under investigation. The raid was reportedly conducted discreetly during the night and extended till daybreak to avoid public attention. Additionally, EFCC personnel were instructed not to disclose any information about the raid to the public.
The source revealed that the raids had a political motive, suggesting that the DSS was acting in the interest of someone influential to President Tinubu. The recent development indicates that the DSS has expanded its operation to target the CCB and ICPC, further removing potentially incriminating files related to Tinubu and his associates.
It should be noted that Tinubu had previously faced charges before the Code of Conduct Tribunal in 2011 for allegedly operating foreign bank accounts during his tenure as governor. However, the case was later dismissed by the tribunal due to insufficient evidence and defective charges.
In March 2016, a senior advocate of Nigeria and the Federal Government prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, stated that the CCT had been misled and that Tinubu was mistakenly freed during his arraignment in 2011.
