Former Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and immediate past member of the House of Representatives for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nwazunku made the announcement during a meeting of the APC’s Echiaba Ward, held at the Ugwuachara residence of Hon. Amobi Nwofoke, the Ward Chairman. His defection was marked by a warm reception from party leaders and members.
Joining Nwazunku in the move were several prominent PDP figures, including Hon. Emeka Otozi, the PDP’s 2023 senatorial candidate for Ebonyi North, the Echiaba Ward Chairman, and other key political allies.
Chief Patrick Orogbo, APC Chairman in Ebonyi Local Government Area, welcomed the defectors on behalf of the State Chairman. He praised their decision as both bold and strategic, assuring them of equal opportunities within the party. Orogbo emphasized the APC’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and inclusiveness.
Hon. Nwofoke, host of the event, lauded the performance of Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, stating that his developmental strides over the past two years have significantly reduced political opposition in the state and fostered greater unity.
In his remarks, Chief Nwazunku revealed that although he had remained in the PDP in body, his spirit had long departed from the party due to what he described as its weakening internal structure and diminishing relevance.
He attributed his defection to the achievements of Governor Nwifuru and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration at the national level. Nwazunku pledged to mobilize his supporters across Ebonyi State to secure a resounding victory for the APC in the 2027 general elections.
