The Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended an ex-cybercrime convict, Adeniran Ayobami Tijesunimi, and fifty-four others for their alleged involvement in internet fraud and related criminal activities. Tijesunimi had previously been convicted and sentenced to seven months imprisonment without an option of fine by Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, in February 2022.
Tijesunimi was arrested alongside the other suspects in Oyo town, Oyo State on July 13, 2023, based on verified intelligence regarding their internet fraud operations. Among the arrested individuals are Ademola Saheed Adeniyi, Olayinwola Tomiwa Rokeeb, Moses Kehinde Biola, Adewale Mumini Adeyemi, and many others.
During the operation, seven exotic vehicles, seventy-nine mobile phones, four laptops, and various incriminating documents were seized from the suspects. The EFCC will conclude investigations before charging them to court for prosecution.
