The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulkarim Chukkol, has issued a stern warning to EFCC staff who leak confidential information. He emphasized that all staff members take an oath of secrecy during the hiring process and that anyone found guilty of leaking sensitive information will be dismissed from their position.
Chukkol made these remarks during the passing-out ceremony of the EFCC Detective Superintendent Course 9, where 318 cadets successfully completed the course and will be absorbed into the commission to bolster its manpower.
During his address, Chukkol decried the increasing rate of corruption in both public and private sectors and pledged that the EFCC would vigorously combat these illicit activities through prevention, sensitization, and enforcement.
He stated, “Any act of corruption, disloyalty, disobedience to constituted authority, and insubordination will be decisively dealt with, and the defaulters are shown the exit door.”
George Ekpungu, the Secretary to the Commission, also urged the graduands to uphold the highest levels of integrity and honesty, reminding them of the importance of operating with integrity in their roles at the EFCC.
The Commandant of the EFCC Academy, Ayo Olowoniyi, further emphasized the value of truth, urging the cadets to be guided by it wherever they go.
The EFCC remains committed to its mandate of combating economic and financial crimes and safeguarding the nation’s security and public interest. The commission seeks to deter unscrupulous individuals seeking to amass illicit wealth at the expense of the public’s safety and the nation’s image.
