A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi, has vowed to reposition the state for rapid economic growth, sustainable development, and strong regional collaboration if elected governor in the June 20, 2026, election.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Obafemi emphasized that the future of Ekiti lies in pragmatic leadership, strategic partnerships, and people-oriented governance.
He said he would leverage his wealth of experience as a businessman and aviation expert to transition Ekiti from a dependent economy to a self-reliant and productive one.
According to him, Ekiti’s untapped agricultural potential would be fully harnessed to eradicate hunger, reduce poverty, and create jobs for citizens.
“Development cannot thrive in isolation. Ekiti must work hand in hand with neighboring states to create economic corridors that will boost trade, enhance infrastructure, and strengthen regional prosperity,” Obafemi stated.
The PDP aspirant pledged to partner with other Southwest governors through the DAWN Commission and the Southwest Development Commission to explore regional opportunities. He also promised to engage the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) to attract investment and stimulate industrialization in the state.
“Our administration will create a conducive environment for private investors and prioritize the growth of small and medium-scale industries that will drive employment and empowerment,” he said.
Obafemi further pledged to transform the Ekiti Knowledge Zone into a world-class innovation hub that attracts global investors and nurtures local talent.
“The Knowledge Zone will no longer remain an idea on paper but will become a practical reality that redefines Ekiti’s economy through technology, research, and industrial growth,” he noted.
On tourism, Obafemi said his administration would harness the state’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical landmarks to boost internally generated revenue and empower local communities.
“Our vision is to make Ekiti a land of enterprise and opportunity, where ideas meet action and people truly prosper,” he declared.
Describing himself as a man of integrity, discipline, and accountability, Obafemi assured that every resource of the state would be judiciously utilized for the common good.
“I am a responsible and transparent leader. I will ensure that every kobo of Ekiti’s resources is used to improve the lives of our people,” he said.
He also emphasized his commitment to peace, unity, and security, stating that sustainable development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of stability.
“I am a man of peace and will serve as a governor for all, regardless of political affiliation. Security will be a top priority in my administration to ensure our people live and work without fear,” he concluded.
