The Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR) within the Ministry of Justice in Ekiti State has initiated legal action against Pastor Adegoke Jeremiah, popularly known as Billion Dollars Prophet, and the State Police Command. The lawsuit is in response to alleged infringement of the rights of Chef Dammy, a rising culinary figure who gained fame for attempting to break the Guinness World Records for the longest hours of cooking.
The DCR is seeking N10 million in compensation for damages on behalf of Chef Dammy, whose controversy with Prophet Adegoke began in October. Dammy, who rose to prominence with the pastor’s sponsorship of her cook-a-thon record attempt, took to social media to express concerns, holding Billion Dollars Prophet responsible for any potential harm to her.
In response, Adegoke’s lawyers demanded a retraction of Dammy’s statements on social media and in two widely read national dailies, along with a payment of N22 million for defamation. Subsequently, Chef Dammy was reportedly arrested by the police on November 23, following a petition filed against her by Prophet Adegoke.
In the lawsuit filed on November 24 by the DCR, Dammy is named as the applicant, while Adegoke, Ajewole Samuel, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 Akure, are named as respondents. The legal action seeks a declaration that the alleged harassment, molestation, threat of arrest, and intimidation by the pastor and the Nigeria Police infringe on Dammy’s fundamental human rights.
