Residents of Enugu, the capital of Enugu State, have expressed their concerns over the detrimental effects of the frequent sit-at-home orders issued by non-state actors in the South-East geo-political zone of Nigeria. In interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the residents, including traders, artisans, and legal practitioners, lamented the significant impact on their livelihoods.
Mr. Jude Uwazurike, a trader at Ogbete Market, shared how his business has been gradually declining as a result of the frequent closure of the market. He explained that he used to travel to Aba, in Abia State, weekly to buy goods, but due to lack of sales caused by the lockdowns, he rarely travels these days. Uwazurike appealed to the authorities to address the situation by either releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or improving the security apparatus in the region.
Mrs. Nnena Okpo, a dealer in perishables at the Holy Ghost market, also expressed her concerns, stating that her business had almost collapsed due to the sit-at-home orders. She emphasized the need for urgent action to change the situation in the South-East zone, as she was losing hope.
The residents collectively called for measures to mitigate the negative impact of the sit-at-home orders, as their means of livelihoods were being severely affected. They urged the relevant authorities to address the situation and find a resolution to restore normalcy and economic activities in the region.
