The Enugu State Police Command has successfully neutralized two suspected kidnappers and rescued a male kidnap victim. The operation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Olasoji Akinbayo, took place at the outskirts of Enugu metropolis on August 20. The police operatives, drawn from various units including the NPF Special Forces and Awkunanaw Police Division, successfully rescued the victim after a gunfight with the kidnappers.
One of the suspects, known as ‘Baron’, was neutralized during the shootout, while others managed to escape with gunshot wounds. The police continued their pursuit, leading to the discovery and recovery of the body of the second suspect, identified as Chukwunonso, a.k.a. ‘Nolly’, the following morning in a forest where the gun battle had taken place.
The successful operation was attributed to the swift response to a distress call regarding the kidnap of the victim. The Enugu State Police Commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu, had implemented new crime-fighting strategies and urged officers to maintain the momentum in tackling criminal activities. The police command is determined to create an environment where criminals have no room to operate.
The operation’s success highlights the efforts of law enforcement in combatting kidnapping and other criminal activities, showcasing the commitment of the police to ensure safety and security within the state.
