In a tragic incident in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, a black-coloured Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) utilized as an ambulance has been involved in a fatal accident, resulting in the loss of three lives.
The accident occurred on Thursday in front of Dacoo Petrol Station at Umuafukwu/Umuagwa village along Ikot Ekpene Road in Obingwa LGA. The ambulance, reportedly traveling at a high speed, collided with tricycles and motorcycles, causing the deaths of three individuals and inflicting serious injuries on others.
Eyewitnesses stated that the ambulance, moving at a rapid pace, struck several tricycles and motorcycles before careening off the road. The driver, whose condition regarding intoxication remains unknown, continued to speed after the accident and eventually veered into a nearby bush, where the vehicle came to a stop.
Villagers and onlookers were reportedly devastated by the tragic incident, expressing uncontrollable grief for the untimely loss of lives. The driver’s actions after the collision raised questions about the circumstances leading to the accident.
The local community urged all vehicle owners traveling on the busy road to adhere to road safety measures, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving.
The injured victims were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention. This incident follows closely after another tragedy in the region where a 40-feet container fell from a truck in the Ogbo Hill area of Aba, resulting in fatalities and damage to vehicles.
