The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, declared an end to the reign of kidnappers terrorizing parts of the FCT, revealing that informants aiding them have been apprehended. During a town hall meeting in Gwagwalada town, Wike pledged to take decisive action against both kidnappers and their collaborators.
Addressing stakeholders and residents, Wike, speaking in pidgin, conveyed the president’s commitment to ensuring the security of lives and property. He emphasized that if the government cannot fulfill this duty, there is no reason for it to be in power.
Wike warned criminals that their time is up and assured the community that he, along with security agencies, would pursue them relentlessly. He disclosed that some informants had already been arrested, and he urged others to reconsider their involvement before facing similar consequences.
Responding to requests for increased police presence in the council, Wike instructed the police commissioner’s representative to expedite plans for two additional police divisions in Gwagwalada. He emphasized that the security matter should not be delayed by bureaucratic processes and assured the allocation of more vehicles and modern communication gadgets to support the police force.
Wike acknowledged the importance of community support, urging residents to provide information to aid security agencies in their efforts to combat kidnapping. He assured that the president had empowered him to purchase more vehicles to enhance the capabilities of the police.
The minister reiterated his stance against crowdfunding for ransom, emphasizing that such actions only fuel the activities of kidnappers. He urged residents to refrain from contributing to ransom funds and encouraged them to support the government’s efforts to eradicate kidnapping in the FCT.
