The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the FCT Administration will intensify efforts to ensure the completion of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit (ARMT) System project by May 29. Wike made this commitment during an inspection tour of the project in Abuja.
Wike expressed optimism about meeting the set deadline, stating, “I am not a pessimist, and I believe that if we put all our energy into it, we may achieve it. I have also disbursed the funds for access roads, so we have no excuse.”
The FCT Administration had awarded a N5 billion contract for the rehabilitation of the ARMT system in August 2023, assigning the project to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Ltd. (CCECC) with an eight-month delivery timeline.
Addressing security concerns around the project, Wike revealed dissatisfaction with the current situation and emphasized the need for enhanced security measures. He pointed out the importance of securing the metro station to prevent vandalism and theft of critical facilities and equipment, pledging immediate action to address security lapses.
Wike also highlighted the significance of the ARMT project, identifying it as one of the initiatives to be commissioned on May 29 to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s first year in office.
