The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has successfully apprehended Chukwudi Ezirike, a wanted ‘one chance’ kingpin, notorious for causing fear along the Kubwa/Zuba highway. The term ‘one chance’ refers to a form of robbery where criminals deceive and rob or defraud passengers picked up while waiting for transportation.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, announced the arrest during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters on Friday. Ezirike, who was reportedly operating a blue Golf 3 car with registration number KWL 536 RZ, was tracked and arrested by police operatives from Byazhin Division based on credible intelligence.
Commissioner Garba revealed that Ezirike’s operational vehicle was also recovered during the operation. He further highlighted the menace of ‘one chance’ activities along the Kubwa/Zuba expressway and noted that the suspect is assisting the police in apprehending his accomplices. The police commissioner assured that Ezirike would face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
In response to the increasing incidents of ‘one chance’ robberies, the FCT Police Command has established an Anti-One Chance Squad. This specialized unit has successfully recovered ten vehicles suspected to be involved in ‘one-chance’ activities. Most of these vehicles were found to have tinted glasses. Additionally, during a search, the police discovered an axe, a cutlass, and a knife believed to be tools used in criminal activities.
Three suspects connected to these incidents are currently under investigation. Commissioner Garba emphasized the commitment of the Anti-One Chance Squad to curbing the menace of ‘one-chance’ activities within the Federal Capital Territory.
In a related development, the FCT Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit successfully trailed and arrested a notorious kidnapper named Salisu Abdulahi, also known as Gwaska. During the operation, one of the gang members, Baba Dan Tsoho, was shot dead by the police, while others managed to escape. Abdulahi is identified as an active participant in kidnapping activities and also serves as an informant and food supplier to another notorious kidnapper named Badume. The police are working to apprehend other gang members associated with these criminal activities.
