The Federal government has disbursed N108.5 billion out of the N217 billion allocated for the emergency repairs of 260 roads across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Minister of Works, David Umahi, made the announcement during a meeting with all directors of the Ministry in Abuja, emphasizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to investing in infrastructure.
Umahi highlighted the urgency of road repairs and stressed that no excuses would be tolerated to ensure the adequate and timely completion of the projects. The funds released will contribute to various critical road interventions, including the resurfacing of the Third Mainland Bridge, construction of the Lekki Deep Seaport road, repair of two collapsed bridges in Enugu, and addressing two locations on the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
Among the approved road projects are the upgrading of the ongoing Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia road and the dualisation of the Lafia by-pass. The disbursement is part of the government’s efforts to address the deteriorating state of roads and enhance the overall transportation infrastructure in the country.
In October 2023, the Ministry sought and received approval from the Federal Government to undertake quick rehabilitation and intervention on 260 critically failed road projects nationwide. The move aligns with the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and ensuring the safety and convenience of commuters across the nation.
