In a bid to bring a swift resolution to the ongoing nationwide strike led by Organised Labour, the Federal Government has called for an urgent meeting with the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) this afternoon.
The meeting, organized by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), aims to address the various grievances fueling the strike. Among the key concerns are the alleged brutalization of NLC President Joe Ajaero by security operatives in Owerri, Imo State, and the unresolved salary arrears for workers.
The NLC and TUC declared an indefinite nationwide strike on Tuesday, November 14, in response to the incident in Imo State and to voice their opposition to several other labor-related issues. These include the reported unjust declaration of 11,000 workers as ghost employees, pending gratuities, non-compliance with the ₦30,000 minimum wage act, and the designation of 10,000 pensioners as ghost retirees.
The outcome of this high-stakes meeting is eagerly awaited as it holds the potential to pave the way for a resolution to the industrial action that has disrupted various sectors across the nation.
