In a recent update, the Nigerian government has announced that the Port Harcourt Refining Company is currently undergoing a test-run and assured the public that refined petroleum products from the facility will soon be available in the market.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, addressed journalists on Wednesday, providing insights into the ongoing status of the refinery. Lokpobiri emphasized that the plant is still in the testing phase, and efforts are being made to ensure a successful operational transition.
During a briefing in Abuja, Lokpobiri revealed that the mechanical aspect of the refinery has been completed, marking a significant milestone in the overall progress of the project. He expressed optimism about the positive impact of the Port Harcourt refinery on the country’s economic survival.
“I believe that very soon products will start coming from there…and the Warri refinery is in top gear,” Lokpobiri stated confidently. “If you ask me, in the next few months, we would have tremendously increased our refining capacity. So, I believe that very soon the Port Harcourt refinery and the other refineries will all come on stream.”
The assurance from the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources comes as a hopeful sign for the nation, anticipating a boost in the production and availability of refined petroleum products. The completion of the mechanical aspect of the Port Harcourt refinery signifies progress toward achieving increased refining capacity, which is deemed crucial for the economic well-being of Nigeria.
As the test-run progresses and the refineries gear up for full-scale operations, the government remains committed to enhancing the country’s self-sufficiency in petroleum production, contributing to economic growth and stability. The upcoming months are expected to witness a significant upturn in refining capabilities, positively impacting the nation’s energy sector and broader economic landscape.
