The Nigerian government has announced plans to extend its national social register and poverty alleviation programs to include the families of wounded and fallen soldiers. Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, revealed this initiative during a meeting with Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, in Abuja.
Edu emphasized the importance of providing support to military families affected by the consequences of war. She expressed the government’s intention to gather data from the military to incorporate military personnel who have been wounded or separated from their families into the social register.
The minister highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to addressing humanitarian crises and poverty in the country. She emphasized the need for collaboration with the military to prevent more individuals from falling into the category of those requiring humanitarian assistance.
In response, Gen. Musa affirmed the Nigerian military’s dedication to supporting the minister in achieving the objectives of her ministry. He acknowledged the interconnection between military operations and humanitarian aid.
