The tragic incident occurred at the off-campus apartment of the university, where Ifeoluwa, a 300-level student of the Department of Economics, was fatally stabbed.
Parading the suspect at the police headquarters in Akure on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abayomi Oladipo, disclosed that advanced technology aided in tracing the stolen iPhone belonging to the victim, leading to the arrest of Sanni.
According to CP Oladipo, the suspect confessed to the crime, revealing that he was attracted to Ifeoluwa’s iPhone and committed the murder to steal it.
“On February 2, 2024, a case of suspected murder was reported to the police regarding the discovery of Adekunle Ifeoluwa ‘F’, aged 20 years, in a pool of blood at her off-campus hostel,” stated CP Oladipo. “Subsequent investigations revealed that the victim’s phone was missing. Through the use of modern technology, the police traced the phone to Olubodun Sanni, a final-year student and neighbor of the deceased in the hostel.”
“The recovered phone led to further questioning, during which the suspect confessed to entering the victim’s room, fatally stabbing her in the chest with a knife, and stealing her iPhone XR,” he added.
CP Oladipo emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court upon its conclusion, underscoring the gravity of the crime and the need for justice to be served.
