According to credible sources within the government, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State is currently bedridden in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. Due to his condition, he is unable to sign official documents. Furthermore, it has been reported that the governor has been abandoned by his wife and children.
Despite his incapacitation, Governor Akeredolu has refused to hand over the reins of government to his deputy. Akeredolu is serving his second term as governor under the All Progressives Congress, with his tenure set to end in 2025.
One source revealed that the governor is immobile, with his hands and legs affected, although he can still communicate verbally. Concerns have been raised about the governance of the state during this period of the governor’s health challenges and his refusal to delegate authority to his deputy.
It is worth noting that previous reports have indicated that Governor Akeredolu is battling leukemia, a form of cancer affecting the blood. However, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary stated that his health issue is not unusual and he is still discharging his official functions.
In the past, Governor Akeredolu has sought medical attention both in Germany and Nigeria. While the governor confirmed his need for medical attention, previous statements from the information commissioner denied reports of his illness.
