President Bola Tinubu is engaged in a meeting with notable political figures at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Among the attendees are Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, James Ibori, the former governor of Delta State, and Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State.
Former Governors Wike, Ibori, and Makinde arrived at the State House around 4:20 pm, marking the commencement of the gathering.
Both Wike and Makinde are affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and are part of a group known as the G-5, which expressed opposition to their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the February 25 elections. Notably, Wike recently concluded his eight-year term as governor.
President Tinubu and Ibori have previously served as governors during the period from 1999 to 2007.
It is noteworthy that Ibori reportedly showed support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last general elections, as his preferred candidate for the PDP governorship election lost to the candidate endorsed by former governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Rumors have been circulating about a potential defection by Ibori to the APC following his diminishing influence within the PDP in Delta State.
Similarly, Wike has been entangled in a strained relationship with the PDP leadership and has been the subject of speculation regarding his potential departure from the party altogether.
