A former Special Adviser to the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Umar Ardo, has suggested that the party may consider expelling the former vice president if he does not abandon his presidential aspirations. This statement comes as a response to the recent Supreme Court ruling affirming President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 2023 presidential election, which Atiku Abubakar criticized.
Umar Ardo noted that PDP governors have already distanced themselves from Atiku Abubakar by expressing their willingness to work with President Bola Tinubu. He pointed out the contrast between Atiku’s stance and the PDP governors’ position, suggesting that the “honeymoon” between Atiku and the party’s governors is over.
Ardo stated, “With these opposing positions, it’s just a matter of time (and in a not distant future) for the inevitable implosion to happen: either Atiku steps down his presidential ambition or leaves the PDP, or be expelled from the party. That’s my reading of the political crystal ball.”
The political dynamics within the PDP and the future of Atiku Abubakar’s association with the party appear to be at a critical juncture, as the party navigates its response to the Supreme Court’s ruling and its positioning for the upcoming political landscape.
