Godwill Dike, the former General Manager Commercial of Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), is facing serious allegations of brutalizing one of his staff over an alleged theft incident. According to Sheidu Ozovehe, who worked as a cleaner for Mr. Dike, he was beaten up, detained, and dehumanized for three days by his former boss after being accused of stealing a flash drive from Dike’s home computer.
The incident took place on June 12, 2021, when Dike requested Ozovehe to clean his flat. Two days later, the staff member was summoned back to Dike’s residence in Maitama, where he was unexpectedly locked in and physically assaulted. Despite vehemently denying any involvement in the missing flash drive, Ozovehe was subjected to torture, including being stripped naked and doused with cold water in Dike’s air-conditioned and cold home.
The police later conducted an investigation and found no evidence linking Ozovehe to the alleged theft, confirming his innocence. Following this revelation, Mr. Dike released the staff member. However, the traumatic experience has left Ozovehe with sleepless nights and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to the physical and emotional abuse he endured during the ordeal.
In a recent statement, Sheidu Ozovehe revealed that Mr. Dike’s driver later brought him N250,000 as an attempt to apologize and compensate for the incident. However, Ozovehe returned the money, stating that he seeks justice for the dehumanizing treatment he received.
This is not the first time Mr. Dike has faced legal issues. He is currently facing a N1.6 billion lawsuit for allegedly making defamatory publications that damaged the reputation of his former colleagues during his tenure as GM Commercial of NLNG. Additionally, it has come to light that Dike was involved in a physical altercation with an Indonesian citizen during an international assignment in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2011. Although he was arrested by the Indonesian police, he managed to avoid imprisonment through the intervention of the Nigerian embassy. However, he was forced to pay compensation and leave the country, tarnishing his reputation and embarrassing his employers and country.
The circumstances surrounding Godwill Dike’s appointment as General Manager Commercial of Nigeria LNG Limited, despite a history of violent behavior, remains unexplained. The allegations against him are now bringing his actions into question, and Sheidu Ozovehe seeks justice for the dehumanizing treatment he endured at the hands of his former boss.
