Former Obasanjo Chief of Staff, Gen. Abdullahi Adangba Muhammed, Dies at 86

Major General Abdullahi Adangba Muhammed (rtd), former Chief of Staff to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has passed away at the age of 86.

The retired military officer reportedly died on Wednesday morning at his residence in Kaduna.

Fondly known as Adangba, the late general was a respected figure in Nigeria’s military and political circles. He served as the Military Governor of the old Benue-Plateau State from 1975 to February 1976 during the administration of General Murtala Mohammed.

Muhammed, who hailed from Ilorin, Kwara State, was the founding Director-General of the defunct National Security Organization (NSO), which later evolved into the Department of State Services (DSS), serving in that capacity from 1976 to 1979.

Renowned for his intelligence and discipline, General Muhammed held several key national security positions. He was the Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua between 1999 and 2008, and also served as National Security Adviser (NSA) to General Abdulsalami Abubakar from 1998 to 1999.

His passing marks the end of an era for one of Nigeria’s most experienced and dedicated public servants.
