A new crisis is emerging within the Kwara All Progressives Congress (APC) as Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq faces backlash over the handling of campaign funds and nomination fee refunds for the 2019 general elections. The controversy surfaced following revelations made by former national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole, stating that N800 million was disbursed to Kwara APC under Governor Abdulrazaq’s leadership as campaign funds, along with an additional N220 million refunded to party aspirants.
The disclosure has triggered discontent among several former APC aspirants, including Akaje Ibrahim, who claim they never received the promised refunds. As a result, these disgruntled aspirants are now demanding transparency regarding the whereabouts of the allocated funds.
Party members have voiced concerns over Governor Abdulrazaq’s alleged inability to provide a detailed account of the nearly N1 billion received from Oshiomole as campaign funds. The lack of transparency in financial matters has raised questions about the management and utilization of these significant party resources.
Adding to the controversy, former Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has challenged Governor Abdulrazaq to account for the remaining N70 million from the campaign funds allocated for the 2018 bye-election in Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency. The demand for accountability further intensifies the scrutiny on the governor’s financial stewardship within the party.
The unfolding crisis threatens to deepen internal divisions within the Kwara APC and raises concerns about financial transparency and accountability in political party operations.
