Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, asserted that achieving industrialization is not solely the government’s responsibility and that political opponents criticizing his administration’s efforts lack an understanding of the process. Governor Diri emphasized that his government is laying a strong foundation for industrialization through substantial investments in road infrastructure and initiatives to stabilize power.
Speaking at the palace of the monarch of Ogboin clan, King Oweipa Jones-Ere, during the conclusion of his four-day re-election campaigns in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Governor Diri highlighted the state’s partnership with a private firm to rehabilitate and expand the capacity of the gas turbine at Imiringi. He stressed the importance of private sector partnerships and investments in fostering a robust economy.
Governor Diri acknowledged the need for the government to provide the enabling environment through basic infrastructure while emphasizing the crucial role of private sector collaboration in achieving a viable economy. He commended the leadership style of King Jones-Ere, expressing gratitude for the peaceful atmosphere in the kingdom.
The governor clarified that industrializing the state is a gradual process and requires a combination of government efforts and private sector participation. He thanked the monarch for his support and leadership, presenting a giant umbrella symbolizing the king’s protection throughout the election campaigns.
During his campaign trail, Governor Diri visited various communities, inaugurated a remodeled town hall, and received support from political leaders and constituents. He highlighted achievements such as the reinstatement of over 600 staff at Niger Delta University and assured rural communities of continued development initiatives.
The governor directed infrastructure projects in several communities, including road linkages, solar-powered lights, and the repair of power generation plants. He affirmed his administration’s commitment to being community-friendly and pledged not to neglect the needs of rural dwellers.
As the election campaigns concluded, political leaders from different communities expressed solidarity and pledged massive support for Governor Diri and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The governor emphasized his presence to identify with the people and thanked them for their continuous support.
