In a recent statement, Bamikole Omishore, the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals and Multilateral Relations, addressed the propaganda circulated by the opposition, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC), regarding the handling of projects in Osun State. Omishore emphasized that the era of abandoning government projects or commissioning incomplete structures has come to an end with Governor Oyetola’s administration.
The statement responded to claims by the opposition, highlighting the commitment of Governor Ademola Adeleke to complete and utilize projects inherited from previous administrations. Unlike the practice of discarding projects, Adeleke aims to continue and fully operationalize outstanding initiatives.
The Special Adviser pointed out specific instances of abandoned projects, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) skills acquisition centers in Iragbiji and Dagbolu. These facilities, despite significant investments, were commissioned in an incomplete state by the previous administration for political gains. Omishore criticized the rushed commissioning, stating that the facilities lacked the ability to operate effectively at the time of their inauguration.
Governor Adeleke, in contrast to his predecessor, has expressed a commitment to ensuring the functionality of all abandoned projects for the benefit of the people of Osun State, regardless of their political affiliations. Omishore revealed that relevant ministries in Commerce and Industry, ICT, Empowerment, and Vocational Studies have been directed to collaborate with the SDG to optimize the performance of these facilities.
The statement challenged the opposition’s claim that the commissioned facilities were operational, questioning the absence of essential equipment such as transformers. Omishore suggested that these missing items might have been taken away during the handover, questioning whether they were considered souvenirs belonging to the people of Osun State.
