In a startling turn of events, a Nigerian groom made a daring escape through the bush during his own wedding ceremony in Imo State, driven by escalating charges and fines imposed on him by the bride’s family and elders.
Biobelemoye David’s ordeal began when he paid a staggering N1,500,000 for various wedding expenses, including food, tents, chairs, and a public address system, as revealed by Igwe Chibueze Ogadimma, who shared the incident on social media. Additionally, he set aside N100,000 as the agreed bride price.
The situation took a bizarre turn when David was asked to pay an extra N50,000 to the bride price due to him impregnating the bride before the wedding. Furthermore, he incurred a N10,000 fine for mistakenly taking a wrong path, leading to a different homestead than the intended destination.
Adding to the mounting charges, David was required to pay N15,000 to appease elders who had grown impatient with his delayed arrival. The climax of the drama unfolded when twelve veiled women were presented before the groom, demanding him to identify his fiancée. Unfortunately, his incorrect choice resulted in another N15,000 fine.
The situation reached a breaking point when elders demanded a refund of N850,000, citing the need to repair the father’s old car that suffered engine damage during the ceremony.
Unable to contain his frustration, David excused himself under the pretense of visiting a nearby bush for a moment and discreetly vanished from the ceremony. Witnesses reported that he switched off his phone and was last seen heading towards Bayelsa State from Imo, leaving behind a bewildered gathering and a wedding ceremony marred by unprecedented chaos.
