A horrifying incident unfolded in Imo State on Tuesday morning as gunmen launched a deadly ambush on a joint security taskforce team, resulting in the tragic deaths of eight security agents. The victims included soldiers, policemen, and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The ambush occurred in the Umualumaku community within the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state.
Reports indicate that the security taskforce team was traveling in two security trucks when they were ambushed and subsequently set ablaze by their assailants. Tragically, none of the security agents survived the attack, as they were burnt inside their operational vehicles.
A security operative, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident and disclosed that reinforcement teams had been dispatched to the scene of the crime. Their mission is to arrest the suspects and recover the remains of the slain security operatives.
A resident from the community, who chose not to reveal their identity due to security concerns, reported having seen the security agents just minutes before they were set ablaze. The community has since been engulfed in confusion and anxiety following this shocking incident.
A video clip depicting the attack, which shows the security agents engulfed in flames within their vehicles, has circulated in the aftermath of the tragic event.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the police in Imo State, Henry Okoye, confirmed the development. However, he requested additional time to gather comprehensive details regarding this horrendous incident, which has left the community and security agencies in the state deeply shaken.
